Akali Dal Leader Bikram Singh Majithia Arrested In Drug Case In Amritsar By Punjab Vigilance Bureau
Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested Shiromani Akali Dal General Secretary Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar in a drugs case after conducting raids at 25 locations in the state.
Before leaving his home after being arrested, Majithia hugged his sons and said, "Stay strong, don’t be afraid."
Vikram Majithia's wife Ganeev Kuar has alleged that the Vigilance team entered their Amritsar home forcefully and did not disclose the reason for the raid.
Speaking on raids by the Vigilance Department at the residence of SAD leader, Punjab AAP President Aman Arora told news agency ANI, "Inquiry would have happened based on a complaint received by the Vigilance department. I can confidently say that the Punjab government does not work with vendetta."
Earlier today, in a video statement, Majithia informed about the raids and said, "Bhagwant Mann-ji, understand this clearly no matter how many FIRs you register, I will not be afraid, nor will your government be able to suppress my voice...I have always spoken up on Punjab's issues and will continue to do so."
According to reports, Majithia has been facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act since December 2021, shortly before 2022 Punjab Assemlby election.
According to Punjab government spokesperson, state police and Vigilance Bureau in joint operation conducted raids in search of drug money.
