New Electric Plane: First electric plane completed a 130km flight, costing less than Rs 700

Beta Technologies’ Alia CX300 first electric aircraft takes off with passengers

New Electric Plane: Beta Technologies’ Alia CX300 first electric aircraft flew with passengers, which is a first in aircraft history. According to the report, earlier this month, the aircraft flew from East Hampton to John F Kennedy Airport in the US, carrying 4 passengers and covered a distance of about 130 km in just 30 minutes. Let’s know about it in detail.

Cost less than Rs 700

The cost of the electric flight was only Rs 694, while the fuel cost for the helicopter completing the same journey was around Rs 13,885. Apart from this, due to the lack of noisy engines and propellers, passengers were able to talk comfortably during the journey.

Kyle Clark, founder and CEO of Beta Technologies, said, “This is a 100% electric airplane that flew from East Hampton to JFK with passengers, which was a first for New York Port Authority and New York. We covered a distance of 70 nautical miles (about 130 kilometers) in 35 minutes. It cost us about $8 in fuel to charge and fly it. Although the payment for the pilot and the airplane is separate, it is quite economical.” According to the company, the comfort and convenience provided by the CX300 can make electric air travel popular among passengers.

Waiting for FAA approval

Beta Technologies was founded in 2017 and is based in Vermont. The company recently raised $318 million in funding to accelerate the production, certification and commercialization of its electric aircraft. For the past 6 years, the company has been working on both the normal takeoff and landing CX300 model and its Alia 250 eVTOL. The company is aiming to get Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification by the end of the year. With Beta airplanes flying up to 250 nautical miles on a single charge, the company claims that it can prove to be better for short trips between cities.

It is worth noting that Beta Technologies is not the only company in the flying taxi segment. Last month, the committee planning the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 appointed Archer Aviation as the official air taxi provider for the event. Spectators at LA 2028 will be able to travel in style by avoiding city traffic. Although Archer Aviation has not yet received certification by the FAA, the company hopes to begin its LA network operations by 2026.
