Four years on, one more held in HSSC constable exam leak case

Nearly four years after the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) police constable (male) recruitment exam was marred by a paper leak, the Kaithal Police have made another arrest in connection with the case.

According to a police spokesperson, the latest arrest was made by SIT member Inspector Beerbhan and CIA-1 incharge Sub-Inspector Jaswant Singh. The accused has been identified as Pawan Kumar, a resident of Bhurawas village in Jhajjar district.

“With this arrest, the total number of people held in the case has reached 167,” the spokesperson said.

The paper leak had originally come to light on August 7, 2021, when the CIA-1 team of Kaithal police apprehended three individuals — Sandeep and Gautam of Khapad village (Jind district) and Naveen of Pyouda village. Their arrest led to the cancellation of the examination.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the paper had been leaked from the printing press of the examination agency based in Jammu, which had been contracted for setting and printing the question papers and answer keys.

A case was registered at City Police Station, Kaithal, under relevant sections of the law.

During interrogation, Pawan Kumar admitted that he had accessed the leaked question paper from Navneet, an accused who had already been arrested earlier from Berla village in Charkhi Dadri district. Pawan later appeared for the exam in Rewari, the police said.

Pawan Kumar was produced in court and has been remanded in judicial custody, the spokesperson added.
