The Army has stopped an infiltration attempt by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in Rajouri.

According to an official statement, several militants were hit during the operation. One local guide suspected of helping them was captured. A cache of weapons and ammunition was also found at the scene.

The incident occurred on June 29 in the Keri sector of Rajouri, a known route for infiltration from across the border. Alert soldiers noticed suspicious movement and acted swiftly to thwart the major infiltration bid.

The group of heavily armed militants was challenged, leading to a gunfight. Initial reports confirmed that at least two militants were killed. The arrested guide is now being questioned by security agencies to learn more about the group and their plans.

The recovery of arms and ammunition after the encounter in the area suggests that the militants were preparing for a major attack. The Army said its quick response helped prevent a possible threat to peace in the region. The incident comes two days before the annual Amarnath Yatra begins.

To stop any further attempts, the Army has increased surveillance along the LoC and strengthened security across Poonch and Rajouri. Troops remain on high alert to deal with any remaining threats.

After Operation Sindoor, security forces have stepped up their efforts to prevent infiltrations from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Since the removal of Article 370, there has been a rise in infiltration of highly trained terrorists into the districts of Rajouri, Poonch, and Kathua. Once inside, these militants hide in the hills and forests of Rajouri, Poonch, and Udhampur, and have been targeting security forces, mainly the Army. More than 50 soldiers have lost their lives in ambushes by Pakistani militants in Jammu’s border areas. The militants have also targeted civilians in several attacks.

India has warned that Operation Sindoor has been put on pause and any terrorist attack will invoke serious retaliation.
