Gang of baby sellers busted, eight arrested

The district police claimed to have busted a gang involved in selling of newly born babies and human trafficking with the arrest of eight persons, including four women, an Asha worker and a resident of Kolkata. The police recovered a newborn baby and Rs 4 lakh.

Addressing the media here today, district police chief Shubham Agarwal said that on June 27, the police received information that on June 23, a woman gave birth to a baby boy at Deep Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh, which went missing. He said that the police registered a case on June 27 at the Mandi Gobindgarh police station and a SIT under the leadership of SP (D) Rakesh Kumar Yadav and DSP, Amloh, Gurdeep Singh and Mandi Gobindgarh SHO Manpreet Singh was formed. He said that the SIT succeeded in solving the case by arresting Taljinder Singh, Kamlesh Kaur, Bhim Singh, midwife Charan Kaur and Amandeep Kaur.

He said that during interrogation it was revealed that Charan, Kamlesh and Amandeep sold the child to Rupinder Kaur and Beant Singh for Rs 4 lakh and they took the newborn to Kolkata. He said that a police team was sent to Kolkata, which arrested Rupinder, Beant and Prashant Parashar, a resident of Kolkata.

He said that the newborn child was found and presented before the Child Protection Committee, Kolkata, and the three accused were presented in a court in Kolkata and later brought to the Mandi Gobindgarh police station on production warrant. He said that the father of the newborn was also involved and he was given Rs 1.5 lakh.
