Member’s tattoo helped Panchkula police bust notorious gang of robbers
The police have exposed the notorious Gulel Gang, which also goes by the name ‘Bala Gang’, a criminal outfit responsible for over 30 cases of murder, robbery, theft and dacoity across the country with the arrest of two members.
The accused, originally from tribal and forest regions of Madhya Pradesh, were tracked down with the help of a distinctive tattoo captured on CCTV footage.
Under the leadership of DCP Crime Amit Dahiya, a team from the Crime Branch Sector-26, including Inspector Dalip Singh and his unit, worked to crack the case. Two gang members have been arrested so far, while three others are in custody and being interrogated.
The gang was identified during an attempted break-in at Panchkula, where an alert citizen helped the police apprehend one of the accused, Sujan, on the spot. Another member, Vishal Mongia, was arrested in Madhya Pradesh and is currently on remand for further questioning.
According to the information, the gang operated with military-like precision. Members would first conduct reconnaissance of isolated houses and strike under the cover of darkness. They avoided using mobile phones and often stayed hidden in forest areas to evade tracking. Once inside a house, they would lock the entire family in a room. Any resistance was met with violent attacks using slingshots (gulel) and iron rods.
Dalip Singh led his team raiding Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri to apprehend members of the gang. He confirmed that the notorious criminals’ extended family members were also burglars.
“One of them even shared that he is from the family of infamous dacoit Mohar Singh of Chambal region. Most of them falls under Subhashpura Police Station juristdiction in Shivpuri region of Madhya Pradesh,” he added.
The gang’s identification through a tattoo caught on CCTV proved a major breakthrough. The DCP highlighted how the gang members used deception and violence strategically—some would survey the area while others would execute the crime. If one member was caught, others would attack the police or public to facilitate an escape.
The DCP, meanwhile, revealed that gang members travelled by train and often consumed alcohol before committing crimes. The Panchkula Crime Branch has also confirmed that the same gang recently carried out a Rs 40-lakh heist in Faridabad. In Panchkula itself, they attempted to commit crimes at Tipra Road, Sector 2, and four other locations but were unsuccessful due to heightened local vigilance.
The police have issued an appeal to police departments across Haryana and other states to coordinate legal action against these suspects by securing production warrants and ensuring the recovery of stolen goods. Additionally, joint operations with Madhya Pradesh Police are being planned to apprehend the remaining gang members.
