Ex-Cong MLA scuffles with cops during protest in Bilaspur

A minor scuffle broke out between former Congress MLA from Bilaspur Bumber Thakur and police personnel as well as the district administration officers during a protest that was being staged outside the premises of Deputy Commissioner’s office in Bilaspur at the same time when Union Minister of Health Jagat Prakash Nadda was on his tour in Bilaspur.

As the police and SDM tried to stop him and urged him to use alternative path, Thakur got into an argument with them and later proceeded to push the SDM as well as the ASP. The ASP then resisted and asked Thakur to not to push and use abusive language against them. Thakur, along with his supporters, then sat on the road and continued to protest.

Thakur, during the protest, alleged that last evening, while he was present near Kunala with his security personnel, some unidentified individuals attempted to attack him. “Those individuals had arrived in two vehicles and were armed. However, the alertness of my security personnel prevented the attack,” alleged Thakur. He further stated that he has also lodged a complaint with the police regarding the incident but the identities of the attackers have not yet been established.

Later on, the ASP, Shiv Chaudhary said that Thakur had obstructed the police as well as district administration officials from performing their duties and appropriate action will be taken against him. The ASP said that Thakur has a habit of unnecessarily blaming the police personnel. He said that Thakur protested on the same route from where Nadda was supposed to commute. As he remained adamant, Nadda’s route was altered.
