WATCH: Nitish Reddy deceived by Chris Woakes’ brilliance, bowled after a shocking leave
New Delhi: Recalled to the Indian Test team, Nitish Kumar Reddy could manage to get only one run off the six deliveries in the Second Test on July 2 (Wednesday) at Edgbaston, Birmingham. But it was not his bad score that attracted notice, it was the humorous manner in which his stumps were broken, following a misjudged leave.
The all-rounder made his way into the Indian playing XI as a replacement of Shardul Thakur who was left out after he put up a subpar performance in the first match. India’s MCG hero batting at No.6 was out of rhythm and failed to gel since he found it hard to take on, facing probing deliveries of Chris Woakes.
English all-rounder got the ball hopping through the air and skimming back brutally into the defence of the right-hander. Unluckily, however, to Reddy, who chose to leave the moving delivery, there remained to him only to hear the rattle of the stumps as he left away with only one run off six balls upon his Test re-entry.
India had a horror beginning in the Test with KL Rahul being dismissed early scoring only 2 off 26 balls. However, Karun Nair along with Yashasvi Jaiswal kept the innings consistent by scoring valuable 31 off 50 balls with five fours.
And when Nitish Kumar Reddy got his chance, he failed make any impact with his bat.
