Breaking News: Brahmin Families Protest Akhilesh Yadav's Visit to Azamgarh by Hoisting Black Flags | ABP NEWS
Tensions have escalated in Uttar Pradesh over a caste-related controversy involving a Brahmin kathavachak (religious preacher), with backlash now directed at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav. Ahead of his Azamgarh visit, several Brahmin families have displayed black flags outside their homes to protest what they perceive as Yadav’s anti-Brahmin stance. The controversy stems from a June 17 incident in Etawah, where Brahmin preacher Pankaj Upadhyay was allegedly assaulted by a Yadav family. The Yadavs claimed he was misbehaving with a woman in their household, while Upadhyay's family insists he suffered an epileptic seizure. Akhilesh Yadav’s subsequent comments were seen as favoring one side, leading to widespread anger among Brahmin communities. In response, over a dozen Brahmin-majority villages in Azamgarh have openly expressed dissent. Protesters argue that Akhilesh Yadav has insulted the Brahmin community through his remarks and failed to address their grievances fairly. Banners and black flags now adorn Brahmin homes, symbolizing their displeasure. Locals say the protest is not against the Yadav community but solely against Akhilesh’s perceived bias and disrespect toward Brahmins.
