Mahadangal: Is the EC Supporting BJP Ahead of Bihar Polls? Opposition Raises Alarm | ABP NEWS
With elections approaching in Bihar, the battle has intensified—not just between political parties, but over the integrity of the electoral process itself. A major controversy has erupted around the voter list verification drive ordered by the Election Commission (EC). Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc, including Pawan Khera, Tejashwi Yadav, and Jairam Ramesh, have accused the EC of acting under the influence of the BJP, calling the process an attempt at "votebandi" (vote suppression). Pawan Khera even warned the EC, saying “governments come and go, don’t become slaves of power.” BJP’s KK Sharma fired back, calling the opposition’s language “threatening” and “undemocratic,” defending the EC as an independent constitutional body. Meanwhile, debates have intensified over the demand for multiple documents for voter verification, which critics say could disenfranchise millions—especially the poor, OBCs, Dalits, and migrant laborers. The EC, however, has assured that no genuine voter will be removed and that this verification follows due constitutional procedures. The BJP argues that the opposition is creating chaos to distract from its lack of preparation. As political rhetoric heats up, the people of Bihar are left wondering whether voter list verification has now become the biggest election issue of 2025.
