Bargi Dam Opens 13 Gates Amid Heavy Rains; Narmada Banks On High Alert

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Bargi Dam administration has increased water discharge by opening an additional four gates, bringing the total to 13, following relentless heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Jabalpur, Mandla, and Dindori districts. This move, initiated at 4 pm on Monday, has dramatically increased the water release from 52,195 cusecs to a massive 1,78,023 cusecs.

All 13 gates are now open to an average height of 3.11 meters to manage the rapidly rising reservoir levels, which have reached their maximum limit due to continuous torrential rains over the past two days.

Consequently, the Narmada River is experiencing a swift rise in water levels across Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, and Narmadapuram districts. Authorities have issued a high alert for residents in low-lying and riverside areas, strictly advising them to stay away from the Narmada and its ghats.

SDRF, NDRF, and police teams have been deployed to ensure immediate assistance in case of emergencies.

The administration has warned of potential further increases in water flow, which could lead to flood-like conditions. Villages surrounding the Bargi Dam have also been advised to remain vigilant. The District Disaster Management Committee is actively monitoring the evolving situation and has urged the public to rely only on information from authorised sources and disregard rumours.
