ABVP protests delay in PhD results, ‘irregularities” in DU’s Hindi Dept
The Delhi unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on Tuesday, highlighting what they termed “persistent administrative irregularities" and “deliberate delays" in the academic and administrative operations of Delhi University’s Hindi Department.
The protest, held on campus, saw participation from student activists and students concerned, who voiced their collective outrage over the prolonged wait for PhD admission results and alleged harassment by departmental staff.
ABVP Delhi state joint secretary Aprajita condemned the department’s negligence, stating: “The neglect of students and the insensitivity of the administration in the Hindi Department are extremely unfortunate. The very department of the university that should be a centre for the promotion of the Hindi and the development of students is where students today feel insecure, neglected, and unheard."
She warned that the ABVP would escalate the issue if urgent corrective measures were not taken: “The Vidyarthi Parishad will not ignore students’ problems and will take this issue to the Vice-Chancellor’s office. We will continue our fight until justice is ensured.”
Bhanu Pratap Singh, DUSU vice president, said,“This is not a mere administrative delay. It’s a systematic disregard for student futures. The PhD result delay has thrown hundreds of students into anxiety, and the department refuses to provide clarity.”
Echoing similar concerns, Mitravrinda Karnawal, DUSU secretary, added, “This protest is the voice of every student who’s been denied timely communication, certificates, and respectful treatment by the department. The psychological toll this negligence is taking on students is unacceptable.”
Several students also recounted their experiences with departmental apathy. They alleged that certificate verifications, application processing, and basic administrative tasks are being deliberately delayed without justification. One protester remarked: “It feels like they are doing this intentionally to mentally harass us. No accountability, no timelines — it’s a complete mess.”
Gargi Joshi, ABVP zonal convenor, questioned the silence of the university authorities,“When repeated complaints from students go unheard, it reflects a deeper rot. Is this the academic culture we expect from a premier institution like DU?”
The ABVP has demanded an immediate release of the PhD admission results, an inquiry into the departmental conduct, and the establishment of a grievance redressal mechanism for students.
The protest ended with a warning that if no action is taken, ABVP will organise a larger university-wide agitation and approach the Vice-Chancellor and higher education authorities.
