J&K Jr Wushu team shines in 24th Jr National C’ship, wins 18 Medals

JAMMU, July 8: Junior Wushu team of Jammu & Kashmir secured 2nd Runner-Up position in the 24th Junior National Wushu Championship held at Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The team showcased an outstanding performance by bagging a total of 18 medals – 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 11 Bronze.
Muntazirn Hussain (56kg), Suryansh Singh (65kg), Varchaswa Gupta (Wing Chun) and Arzath Wangoo (Double Weapon event) clinched Gold medals in their respective categories. Arham Paray (70kg), Pawana Saini (Silver) and the duo Rudra Partap Singh and Swarjit Singh Chib (Dulian event) secured Silver medals.
Bronze medals were bagged by Pratibha Devi (Nandao and Nangun events), Arzath Wangoo (Wing Chun), Pawana Saini (Other style), Jiya Manhas (45kg), Sana Jaan (60kg), Sauliha Rather (70kg), Sadiya Gulzar (75kg), Fida Hussain (45kg), Kapish Bharat Rakwal (48kg) and Burham (75kg).
A pre-participation coaching camp was organized by J&K Sports Council in Jammu and team was screened by Divisional Sports Officer, Screening Committee members and Wushu Association of J&K on June 26. Nuzhat Gul congratulated the medallists, calling it a moment of pride for the UT. Vijay Saraf, Ranjeet Kalra, Bhavneet, Sohit Sharma and other association officials praised the team’s efforts.
Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo expressed confidence in the team’s future at major international events like the 2026 Asian Games.
