Greater Noida Man Takes Own Life After Wife Objects To Late Work Nights

A domestic dispute over late working hours took a tragic turn in Greater Noida’s Beta 2 area, where a 36-year-old man reportedly died by suicide while his wife also attempted to end her life during the same night, police said on Tuesday.

The incident unfolded between Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday, leaving the local community shocked and a family torn apart.

According to officers, the man, who worked as a manager at a factory in Site V, Greater Noida, lived with his 33-year-old wife and their three children in a rented flat in Sector 36, reported The Hindustan Times.

Initial inquiries revealed simmering tensions in the household, largely fuelled by the wife’s frustration over her husband’s long working hours. “He usually returned home around 10 or 11pm due to work pressure,” said Beta 2 Station House Officer Vinod Kumar. “His wife repeatedly urged him to come back earlier, but he explained that leaving work early was not possible in his private job without risking his employment.”

Trouble escalated on Monday evening. At 8.55pm, the woman messaged her husband, asking when he would be home. He shared his location and assured her he would arrive soon, but she replied: “It has turned into an everyday drama,” according to police.

Over the next few hours, she made several WhatsApp calls to him. Then, at 11.56pm, she phoned a relative, pleading with him to come to their residence.

By 12.18am, the relative arrived to a harrowing scene: the woman was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan, while her husband lay unconscious on the floor. Acting quickly, the relative cut her down and rushed her to hospital.

“Their children were asleep in another room and remain unaware of the full extent of the incident,” SHO Kumar said. “It appears that after discovering her husband was dead, the woman tried to take her own life from the same ceiling fan, leaving behind a message intended for her children.”

Investigators noted the woman had been messaging her husband persistently since around 5.30pm that evening. While police suspect the frequent arguments over his late hours played a significant role, the precise reasons why she demanded he return home early remain under investigation.

The woman remains in critical condition. Police have seized both spouses’ mobile phones and are recording statements from grieving family members to determine the events that led to this devastating outcome.

No suicide note was found in the home, and police have not yet registered a case as investigations continue.
