Toll Tax Exemption: You will have to pay 50% toll on these national highways, know what is the government’s plan?

Earlier, in a bid to provide relief to commuters, the government had announced a Rs 3,000 annual toll pass scheme that would allow private vehicles to cross 200 toll plazas annually.

Toll Tax Exemption: The government is preparing to give another relief to the common passengers from the toll levied on the National Highway (NH). According to the information received, the Ministry of Road Transport has proposed to halve the toll while expanding the 10 meter wide, two-lane National Highway to four lanes. That is, there will be a 50% discount on the current toll. The ministry made this proposal because during construction work on highways, passengers do not get better service, because the width of the NH reduces during construction. Let us tell you that at present 60% of the normal toll is charged on such 2-lane NH, even if there is no construction work going on on it. After the proposal is approved, the toll will be reduced by 30%.

This much toll will have to be paid on approval

If this proposal of the Road Transport Ministry is passed and gets a green signal from the Finance Ministry, then the person traveling on the highway during construction will have to pay 30 percent less toll than the normal toll. In case of widening of 4-lane highways to six lanes or expansion of six-lane highways to eight lanes, the toll chargeable during the construction phase is capped at 75 per cent of the normal rate.

2-lane NHs across the country will be 4 lanes

Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a plan to convert 25,000 km of two-lane highways into four-lane highways with an investment of Rs 10 lakh crore in the next two years. In such a situation, this proposal of the Road Transport Ministry is reasonable. It is expected to get approval. After this proposal is approved, people will have to pay less toll during construction on NHs across the country, which will lead to huge savings for them. The government will focus on expanding two-lane NHs in the next decade, as about 80,000 km out of the total 1.46 lakh km length of national highways fall in this category.

Recently the government also gave this relief

Earlier, to provide relief to the passengers, the government had announced an annual toll pass scheme of Rs 3,000, which will allow private vehicles to cross 200 toll plazas annually. Recently, the government has notified a new rule to reduce toll rates for structures like bridges, tunnels, flyovers and elevated sections on highways by up to 50 per cent, which will benefit commercial and heavy vehicles.
