Bengaluru horror: 3 arrested over repeated rape, blackmail of college student

Three people—two of whom were lecturers at a private college in Bengaluru—have been arrested for raping a college student on multiple occassions.

Identified as Narendra, Sandeep, and Anoop, it is learnt that the trio work at a private college in the city, where the alleged victim had been studying.

The matter came to light only after the traumatised student told her visiting parents about the multiple crimes visited upon her, after which they promptly approached the Karnataka State Women's Commission, which then led to a complaint being filed at the Marathahalli Police Station, where all three of them were arrested, as per an NDTV report.

According to the police, Narendra, a Physics lecturer, first befriended the student under the false pretext of sharing study notes with her, after which he once called her to Anoop's room in the city, where he allegedly raped her. He also threatened her with consequences if she was to complain about them.

A few days later, Sandeep, a Biology lecturer, blackmailed her by claiming to have photos and videos of her with Narendra. The heinous crime took place again, in Anoop's room.

Anoop later blackmailed the student by claiming to have CCTV footage of her entering his room, following which he too, allegedly committed the crime.

The three are currently awaiting trial. This comes amid the devastating self-immolation—and subsequent death—of a student in Balasore, Odisha, as a response to protracted inaction over her sexual harassment complaint against a lecturer at her college.
