Germany – India’s leading dressage rider, won the Jubilaumsturnier Hofgeismar Open 2025 with his new partner, Floriana, a lively seven-year-old mare, in a touching demonstration of talent and trust.

The victory was no typical achievement. Anush Agarwalla and Floriana had only competed twice together, and it was their first victory at the S level, which is one level below the prestigious Grand Prix level. With 69.891%, Anush topped the leaderboard, surpassing both Pia Piotrowski and Katharina Hemmer in a field that was exclusively German.

After the event, Anush remarked, “I’m really proud of Floriana.” She exhibited maturity beyond her years in handling the competition. For us both, this victory is a unique moment.

Following the heartbreaking retirement of Sir Caramello Old, the horse that enabled Anush to become India’s first dressage representative at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Floriana takes over as Anush’s new partner.

“Only 7 years old and what a potential for the future,” Anush wrote in a heartfelt social media post.

Anush thanked his mentor, Anna Scholermann, for her “constant guidance, training, and belief in us,” which added even more significance to the victory.

The victory also drew warm recognition from his home stable. Fleyenhof Hubertus Schmidt, where Anush trains, celebrated the achievement in a heartfelt social media message:

“We look back on a successful weekend for the Fleyenhof and congratulate Anush on the victory in the S-dressage in Hofgeismar 🥇 With his young hope Floriana, he was able to convince all the way… The whole Fleyenhof team is proud of you!”

Anush demonstrated his exceptional ability to connect with various horses and bring out their best just last year when he rode Etro to win both individual bronze and team gold at the 2023 Asian Games.

But with Floriana, a deeper connection is developing—one that is both new and promising. This victory ushers in a fresh and motivating era for Indian equestrian sport as the two continue their journey.
