Mother-son duo’s Rs 70-lakh property funded through drug trade seized by cops in Punjab’s Goraya
In a crackdown under the Punjab Government’s ongoing ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, the police in Goraya, Jalandhar district, have seized assets worth ₹70,70,150 of an alleged drug trafficker. The action was carried out under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and other Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Goraya Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Sikandar Singh Virk stated that the property belonging to Jagiro, wife of Jaila Ram and a resident of Goraya, was identified as being acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking. A detailed proposal for property seizure was submitted to the competent authority in New Delhi, which subsequently approved the forfeiture.
Following the approval, Inspector Virk, along with his police team, visited the accused’s residence and affixed a copy of the order on the premises, thereby formally notifying the concerned parties of the property’s seizure.
According to police records, five NDPS cases have been registered against Jagiro, while her son, Vijay Kumar, faces 10 separate cases under the same Act. The authorities believe the seized property was accumulated through illegal drug trade, operated primarily by Vijay Kumar.
The property has now been frozen as per the directives issued by the competent authority.
Police officials reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating the drug menace and emphasised that such actions would continue unabated against individuals involved in the illicit trade.
