School’s tree plantation drive inspires environmental stewardship
As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community involvement, St Edward’s School successfully organised a tree plantation drive in the Kanlog and Shivpuri areas of Shimla. The initiative, conducted under the aegis of the school’s Eco Club in collaboration with the National Cadet Corps (NCC), witnessed enthusiastic participation from school cadets as well as those from neighbouring institutions.
The drive targeted areas identified for ecological restoration and enhancement of green cover. Students and cadets actively planted a variety of saplings, making a tangible contribution to the conservation of Shimla’s fragile hill ecosystem.
The activity not only served the purpose of afforestation but also aimed to instill a deeper sense of environmental responsibility among young participants.
“The initiative aimed not only at afforestation but also at instilling a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship among students. Through this community outreach effort, the Eco Club and NCC cadets took a step forward in fostering awareness about climate change, biodiversity and sustainable living,” said a spokesperson for the school.
The plantation drive reflected the school’s broader vision of shaping environmentally conscious citizens and highlighted the role of educational institutions in addressing pressing ecological challenges through youth-led action.
