Bhubaneswar: BJD President and Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik has condoled the demise of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Shibu Soren.

Taking to his ‘X’ handle, Naveen said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Shibu Soren. He was a prominent tribal leader and will be remembered for his dedication to fight for the rights of the tribal and marginalised people. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, friends, and followers in the hour of grief. Om Shanti”.

Shibu Soren (81) passed away early Monday morning at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi. He had been admitted to the hospital on June 18 after suffering a brain stroke and had been battling kidney disease, undergoing regular dialysis. He had also undergone open heart surgery a few years ago.

A three-time Chief Minister, several-time MP, and former Union minister, Soren was widely regarded as the face of Jharkhand’s fight for a separate state and tribal rights.
