A woman IPS officer has triggered a row after she was involved in a heated argument with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar over her action against illegal soil excavation in a village. The video of the verbal argument, which went viral, showed DSP Anjali Krishna being rebuked by Pawar over the phone.
The incident happened at Solapur’s Karmala village. Anjali, a sub-divisional police officer, arrived with the police force at the spot after locals protested against the illegal extraction of ‘murrum’. However, miners clashed with the villagers, leading to chaos. Following this, NCP leader Baba Jagtap arrived at the venue. He asked the DSP to stop the police action. Jagtap then called Ajit Pawar directly on his phone and handed it over to Anjali Krishna.
Pawar was heard instructing her to stop the action. “Tell the tehsildar that the action has been stopped on the orders of the deputy CM,” he is heard telling Krishna.
But, she was heard seeking clarification: “How can I know who is talking on the phone? Can you please call me on my number directly?" the IPS officer asked.
Pawar got furious hearing her reply. He was heard asking: “Are you so daring? I will take action against you. I am talking to you and you are asking me to call you directly. You want to see me. Take my number and make a WhatsApp call. How dare you?)", Pawar shouted.
According to reports, she then made a video call to Pawar’s number and clarified that she couldn’t recognise his voice. He then asked her whether she recognised him.
However, after the video triggered an uproar, the NCP issued a statement defending Pawar, stating that he chided the officer to disperse the tensions and that the video was being misinterpreted.
