Boat capsizes near Kendrapara’s Satabhaya, 8 fishermen escape without injuries

A boat capsized in the sea near Satabhaya under Rajnagar in Odisha’s Kendrapara district late Thursday night. Eight fishermen on board had a narrow escape, managing to swim to safety after the vessel overturned.

According to reports, the ill-fated boat belonged to the Bhadrak area. While all crew members survived the mishap, the boat, along with its catch and fishing equipment, was lost to the sea.

According to reports, the steersman of the boat noticed a technical glitch while near the Satabhaya area. Acting promptly, he attempted to steer the vessel towards land. However, a portion of the boat broke apart, causing water to seep in rapidly. The incident took place close to the shore, allowing the fishermen to swim to safety.

All Crew Members Safe

There were eight fishermen aboard the boat when it began to sink after water entered it. Despite the tense situation, all of them managed to reach the shore unharmed. However, the fish catch and all materials on board sank with the boat.

Concerns Over Boat Maintenance

The incident has raised serious concerns over the recurring technical failures and maintenance of fishing boats in the region.

Questions are being asked as to whether the boats are properly maintained and their engines are serviced regularly. Fishermen have expressed worry that such lapses pose significant risks to their lives and lead to major financial losses when equipment and catch are lost at sea.
