An allegation of a rape case involving a medical college student has emerged in West Bengal, this time from a private medical college in Durgapur in West Midnapore district. The alleged rape of the second-year student has sparked tension on the premises of this college.
However, the incident took place outside the college premises. The main perpetrator of the crime was known to the victim.
According to primary reports, the student who belongs to Jaleshwar in Odisha, left the college premises from the back gate around 8:30 pm on Thursday after she was asked to exit the premises by her boyfriend to eat ‘pani puri’ with him.
The victim alleged that her boyfriend also called his friends and then took the girl to a secluded place and raped her.
Police investigations are underway; no arrests have been made so far. Police reached the college premises and spoke to the authorities to gather further details. Meanwhile, the girl’s parents have also come to the college to find out more about what happened.
The BJP lashes out at the state administration over crimes against women taking place. “Since the last 14 and a half years under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and TMC this is what we have got. ‘Egiye Bangla’? (Bengal moves forward?). How are we progressing forward? It can be a six-month-old child, an 80-year-old woman or a second-year student in a medical college from Odisha. There is no control in West Bengal. Catch any girl and rape her. She had gone to buy food and she was gangraped.” Said BJP leader Agnimitra Paul.
Paul went on to question what investigation is being done in all rape cases in the state. “West Bengal cannot provide security to its own women. How will they provide security to someone coming from Odisha? It is shameful, said Paul.
