Bridging distances, saving lives: Minister flags off ambulances, inaugurates bridge in Kinnaur
Revenue, Horticulture, Tribal Development and Public Grievances Redressal Minister Jagat Singh Negi on Wednesday flagged off two ambulances dedicated to serving the remote border villages of Chitkul and Kunnu-Charang in Kinnaur district.
The ambulances, provided by the 136 Infantry Brigade of the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana, were dispatched from the Indian Army helipad at Choling village in Gram Panchayat Meeru. The initiative aims to improve emergency medical access in some of the most geographically challenging regions of the state.
Following this, the minister inaugurated a newly constructed 55-m long Bailey bridge over the Tangling Khad, completed at a cost of Rs 3.61 crore. Speaking on the occasion, he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to rural development, particularly the enhancement of transport infrastructure in remote tribal areas.
Negi said the bridge would significantly ease connectivity for local residents, reduce travel time, and boost local economic activity. He praised contractor Bhimsen Negi for completing the project within a tight deadline and for his consistent track record of constructing Bailey bridges across the state.
He also highlighted the progress in the implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, in tribal areas. He said that land is being allotted to the landless under the Act, and efforts are underway to train officials and raise awareness at the panchayat level to ensure that eligible beneficiaries can make full use of its provisions.
