Hyundai CRETA Continues as India’s Best-Selling SUV in April 2025

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has reported that the Hyundai CRETA was the highest-selling model in the Indian automobile market for the second consecutive month. In April 2025, the model registered sales of 17,016 units, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 10.2% compared to April 2024.

From January to April 2025, the Hyundai CRETA also secured the position of India’s top-selling SUV, with cumulative sales reaching 69,914 units. This performance has contributed significantly to HMIL’s domestic SUV sales, with the SUV segment accounting for a 70.9% share of the company’s total domestic sales in April 2025. Other models such as the Venue, Exter, and Alcazar also supported this growth in the SUV category.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Limited, noted that the sales figures reflect consistent market demand for the model. He highlighted that the addition of an electric powertrain to the CRETA lineup has expanded its market presence, aligning with the growing interest in electric vehicles within India.

Since its introduction, the Hyundai CRETA has recorded over 1.2 million unit sales in the country. The model’s sustained demand is attributed to its evolving features, including changes in design, technology, and powertrain options. The SUV continues to be a significant contributor to Hyundai’s overall performance in India.

Hyundai Motor India Limited stated that the CRETA’s market position is part of the company’s broader strategy to address shifting consumer preferences in the Indian automobile sector. The company has been expanding its SUV portfolio over the years and plans to continue developing vehicles equipped with a range of powertrain options, including internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and electric variants.

  1. The CRETA’s recent sales milestones indicate the sustained demand for compact and mid-size SUVs in India, reflecting wider industry trends and consumer inclinations towards versatile vehicle options in both urban and rural markets.
