'No Money Even If You Cut Me': CM Revanth Stresses Telangana's Financial Crunch, Urges Patience
Amid rising discontent among government employees over pending allowances and other dues, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday made a candid appeal for understanding, highlighting the state's serious fiscal challenges.
Addressing a gathering in Hyderabad, Reddy acknowledged the growing demands, including the implementation of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC), clearance of outstanding dearness allowances, and settlement of medical reimbursement claims. However, he underscored that the government is grappling with a major financial crunch.
He said that the state requires Rs 22,500 crore every month but the current revenue stands at only Rs 18,500 crore. Addressing the reporters emotionally, Revanth Reddy said that even if they cut him into pieces, they cannot raise more than Rs 18,500 crore, reported News 18.
Telangana's Fiscal Position In Doldrums: Revanth
Telangana CM painted a grim picture of Telangana’s financial status, revealing that banks and financial institutions have become wary of lending to the state.
He said, as per PTI, "Telangana's financial position is not in good shape. We are not able to raise loans. Nobody is willing to come forward and offer loans. Bankers are looking at Telangana representatives as thieves. Nobody is giving appointments in Delhi also. Nobody believes in us (state government). Self control (financial discipline) is the only solution. Employees are part of the Telangana family."
The remarks follow a recent memorandum submitted by the Telangana Employees’ Joint Action Committee (JAC), outlining 37 unresolved demands—including the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme. The JAC has indicated the possibility of statewide protests if demands are not met promptly.
Reddy reiterated that public employees are vital to the functioning of the state, urging them to show restraint and partner with the government during this financially difficult phase. He emphasised that only strict financial discipline could help the state recover.
