6 Haryana officials chargesheeted over mining along Raj border

After being in the denial mode for months, Haryana has finally accepted illegal mining in its territory at Rawa village of Nuh on the Rajathan border since 2011 and chargesheeted six mining officials. Though the area fell under Haryana’s revenue jurisdiction, leaseholders from Rajasthan were carrying out illegal mining here.

The chargesheeted officials are Assistant Mining Officer RS Thakran and Mining Officers Bhupender Singh, BD Yadav, Rajender Prasad, Anil Kumar and Anil Atwal.

In December 2024, The Tribune had highlighted how the mining mafia from Rajasthan had blasted a hill on the inter-state border. While both the states registered FIRs, no major action was taken due to their jurisdictional fight, said sources.

Commissioner and Secretary, Mines and Geology, TL Satya Prakash had ordered a geo-spatial survey in the area. The survey found that around 25 acres of Haryana land was being used for illegal mining\B \Bby leaseholders from Rajasthan.\B \B

Though Satya Prakash and DG, Mining, K Makarand Pandurang could not be contacted, a senior official of the Mining Department said, “Borders are not too clear in the forest and we always knew that our revenue land was being used by persons from Rajasthan."\B

\B"Miners holding lease in Rajasthan illegally mined the hills falling in Haryana. Field officials turned a blind eye to it and have been chargesheeted,” he said.

“Taking strict cognisance of illegal mining activities, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed the filing of a chargesheet against six officials of the Mining Department regarding an illegal mining case in Nuh district. He has also directed action against staff from the Panchayat and Forest Departments found involved in the case," said an official statement issued by the Haryana Government.

“A complaint was received regarding the extraction of mining material beyond the permitted limit in a mining lease between November 2011 and January 2025 at Rawa village of Ferozepur Jhirka tehsil, Nuh district. The Department of Mines and Geology conducted a detailed investigation and found that illegal mining had indeed taken place. Taking its strict cognisance, the Chief Minister has directed that six officials of the department be chargesheeted under the Rule 7 of the Haryana Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules,” added the statement.
