Navi Mumbai News: ACB Arrests Belapur Court Peon And Roha Talathi In Separate Bribery Cases

Navi Mumbai: A court peon from Belapur and a talathi from Roha have been arrested in separate bribery cases by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Navi Mumbai unit. The arrests were made after both individuals were caught red-handed while accepting bribes for official services.

In the first incident, Santosh Tukaram Mane, a peon at the First Class Magistrate’s Court in Belapur, was arrested on Wednesday morning for accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500. He had allegedly demanded the amount to provide certified documents related to a court stay order in a civil case.

The complainant had earlier lodged a grievance with CIDCO against the illegal construction of a building in Sector-11, Juhugaon, Vashi. Subsequently, a demolition notice was issued by CIDCO and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

In response, the housing society concerned filed an appeal in the Belapur court and obtained a stay order. When the complainant sought official documents of the court’s stay, Mane demanded a bribe of Rs 2,500.

After verifying the complaint, the ACB laid a trap near the Belapur court, where Mane was caught accepting the bribe. A case has been registered against him at CBD police station, and he is currently in custody. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent of Police Nitin Dalvi by Inspector Arundhati Yelave and her team.

In another case, Firoz Ilahi Mujawar (30), a talathi posted at Sajja Bhalegaon in Roha taluka, was caught red-handed on Tuesday for accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe. Mujawar had allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 to process a legal heir entry on the 7/12 land extract following the death of one Anil Garg, a resident of Khandane village in Roha.

According to the ACB, Mujawar had already received Rs 5,000 via Google Pay through an acquaintance named Nazir. However, he repeatedly demanded the remaining amount, prompting the complainant to approach the ACB. A trap was set at the talathi office, where Mujawar was caught while accepting the remaining Rs 10,000, the anti corruption bureau official said.
