‘Thank you, captain’: BCCI expresses gratitude following Rohit Sharma’s sudden retirement from Test cricket
New Delhi: Following his retirement from Test cricket, Rohit Sharma received widespread appreciation on social media from former players and teams, acknowledging his twelve-year contribution to the Indian national team. The Mumbai Cricket Association, instrumental in his development, was among the first to express gratitude.
“Mumbai cha Raja (The king of Mumbai) hangs up his Test whites. From pulling fast bowlers into the stands to leading with calm authority — Rohit Sharma’s Test journey was worth every watch, every roar, every rise,” posted the MCA.
The BCCI expressed pride in Rohit Sharma.
“Thank you, Captain. End of an era in whites! @ImRo45 bids adieu to Test cricket. He will continue to lead India in ODIs. We are proud of you, Hitman,” posted BCCI.
Rishabh Pant believes Rohit Sharma’s influence on the Indian cricket team will be felt for a considerable time.
“Your presence and impact will echo in that dressing room forever. Much love, @rohitsharma45 bhai,” posted Pant on Instagram.
Dhruv Jurel, who made his Test debut during the 2024 series against England under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, offered his congratulations on Rohit’s retirement.
“Always my first skipper, Happy Retirement Rohit Bhaiya,” posted Jurel.
Rohit Sharma concluded his Test career with 4,301 runs across 67 matches, averaging 40.57, with 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. He captained India in 24 Tests from 2022 following Virat Kohli’s resignation, achieving 12 wins and 9 losses. His captaincy tenure also included India’s defeat in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia.
