Bank Holiday: Are Banks Open Or Closed Today? Check Complete Calendar HERE

As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, Saturday, May 10, 2025, marks a bank holiday across the country. This is because it falls on the second Saturday of the month—a day on which banks typically remain closed. According to the RBI's schedule, banks operate on the first and third Saturdays while remaining shut on the second and fourth Saturdays.

This closure on May 10 will be followed by a Sunday, May 11, which is a regular non-working day for banks. Additionally, Monday, May 12, will also be a holiday in several states due to Buddha Purnima. As a result, banks will remain shut for three consecutive days in certain parts of the country.

Customers in cities such as Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar should be aware that banking services will not be available between May 10 and May 12.

Types of Bank Holidays and Available Services

The RBI classifies bank holidays into three distinct types: those under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays, and those set aside for banks’ annual closing of accounts. The holiday on May 10 falls under the Negotiable Instruments Act. This means services involving cheques and promissory notes will be unavailable.

Despite these closures, customers can still carry out financial transactions via digital banking platforms. Internet and mobile banking services will remain operational across India. Activities like NEFT and RTGS fund transfers, demand draft submissions, and chequebook requests can be conducted online. Customers can also manage services such as credit and debit card applications, ATM usage, account maintenance tasks, setting standing instructions, or applying for lockers.

To confirm the status of banking operations on any given date, individuals are advised to refer to the official notifications issued by the RBI through its website and other communication channels.
