IED recovered from gangsters defused

An improvised explosive device (IED) recovered during a counter-terror operation in Sector 39 on Thursday night has been safely defused by a bomb squad from the Indian Army’s Western Command, based in Chandimandir.

The 2-kg device, believed to contain RDX, was linked to the recently busted Happy Passia terror module, whose operatives Joban Jit Singh, alias Billa, and Sumandeep, alias Simma, were arrested on Thursday night. The suspects are alleged to have ties with gangster-turned-terrorist Happy Passia and were reportedly plotting a major attack.

The recovered IED was stored in a secured location under police protection until the bomb disposal team intervened. The device was transported outside the city limits and safely neutralised under tight security protocols. The remnants of the explosive have been sent to the CFSL for analysis.
