DC reviews disaster management arrangements

Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh today held a meeting with officers to review the disaster management arrangements.

However, a ceasefire has since been reached between India and Pakistan.

The DC directed the officers and employees to be ready for 24-hour services and in alert mode so that they could provide relief to the people in times of disaster.

At the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the Subdivisional Magistrates (SDMs) to set up control rooms at the subdivision level. They were also instructed to install telephones in the control room so that the citizen could contact the administration easily.

DC Neha Singh said arrangements for sirens had been made at the Mini-Secretariat and Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra. Apart from this, the arrangements for sirens had been made in the villages by the Panchayat Department. SDMs and Chief Administrative Officers would install public address systems on their vehicles so that the messages could be conveyed to the public easily. All SDMs have been directed to stay in the field in their respective areas and remain in contact with the common citizens as well as social and religious organisations. During the meeting, Superintendent of Police Nitish Agarwal said the Police Department is keeping a close watch on those who spread false rumours, news and fake videos on social media platforms. Strict action will be taken against the people who try to create panic by spreading rumours. The Police Department is on alert mode and security arrangements have been increased. Public places, bus stands, railway station, hotels and dharmashalas are being inspected by the authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, a district official said there were directions from the government to make necessary arrangements to deal with power cuts in the district and disaster in multi-storeyed buildings. Besides these, a special focus should be kept on the availability of food items in the district and no shopkeeper or trader should store food items and sell these at high prices. If any shopkeeper or trader was found indulging in black marketing, strict action would be taken against the person concerned. District Food and Supply Controller Surinder Saini said there was ample stock of food items available in the district.
