Prateik Babbar breaks silence on not inviting his father, Raj Babbar, to his wedding, says…
Bollywood has never been a stranger to complex love stories and unconventional relationships. Over the decades, many celebrated actors have lived lives full of emotional twists, public scrutiny, and private heartbreaks. One such story is that of veteran actor Raj Babbar, whose personal life stirred headlines in the 1980s when he fell in love with the late actress Smita Patil while still married to theatre artist Nadira Babbar. The complicated triangle drew massive attention and left a lasting impact on everyone involved, especially their son, Prateik Babbar.
Fast forward to February 14, 2024, when Prateik tied the knot with actress Priya Banerjee in a quiet, private ceremony held at his late mother Smita Patil’s home. What caught many by surprise was the noticeable absence of his father, Raj Babbar, and his half-siblings from the celebration.
In an interview with Zoom, Prateik clarified the reason for his father’s absence from his wedding: “My father’s wife and my mother had some problems in the past. A lot was said in the media. I didn’t think it was right to have them at my mother’s house.” He further said that the house where the ceremony was held was a special one where his mother had once wished to bring him up as a single mother.
“It wasn’t about cutting anyone off,” he explained. “It was about honoring my mother’s memory and the space that was so important to her.”
Prateik also shared that he had the plan to do a separate celebration with his father’s family, but things got complicated after that. He further stated that people were quick to think that there was a drift or fight within the family, but that wasn’t true.
“It was never about rejecting anyone. It was just about doing the right thing in that moment, in that house,” he said.
Prateik, son of two legendary actors, has always had a complex relationship with his family considering the dynamics. However, with his choice, he has shown that following your path and setting boundaries is important for your happiness, even if others don’t agree.
