Drishyam Returns In Indore: 21-Year-Old Shot Dead By Sister’s Lover, Buried Near Pond; Accused Cooks Rajasthan’s ‘Sanwariya Seth’ Story To Mislead Family & Cops

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore witnessed a real-life recreation of the Bollywood suspense thriller Drishyam, where lies layered over murder kept the truth hidden beneath the surfaces- quite literally - until persistence and suspicion cracked the case wide open.

Victim Vishal Chouhan, 21, a resident of Semliya Chau village falls under Khudel police station limits, had gone missing on May 1 after leaving home to attend a wedding. Fifteen days later, his body was exhumed from near a pond in Chhoti Khudel, following revelations from a twisted web of deceit, false alibis, and digital misdirection.

The accused, Rohit Parmar, once a friend, is now in custody, having confessed to murdering Vishal, allegedly over personal tensions involving Vishal’s sister. What followed was a coldly calculated cover-up that could have fooled many — if not for one vigilant lead.

The Plot: Tensions, Threats & A Fatal Trap

According to DSP (HQ) Umakant Choudhary, Vishal’s sister filed a missing person’s complaint after he failed to return from the wedding. Investigators soon discovered he was last seen with Rohit Parmar, who was reportedly romantically involved with Vishal’s sister — a relationship Vishal strongly objected to. This tension, police say, ultimately led to a fatal confrontation.

Murder by the Pond

On the night of May 1, Rohit lured Vishal to a secluded pond in the Chhoti Khudel area, accompanied by his friend Virendra. There, Rohit allegedly shot Vishal with an illegal firearm, killing him on the spot. Virendra, too, reportedly sustained an injury during the incident. Displaying shocking calm, the duo buried Vishal’s body in shallow soil. Two days later, Rohit paid Rs 40,000 to two more men to dig a proper pit, re-bury the corpse, and sprinkle salt to speed up decomposition — all while life in the village moved on.

The Drishyam-style Alibi

Attempting to create a foolproof cover, Rohit called his family the next morning, claiming he had travelled to Sanwariya Seth Temple in Rajasthan, attempting to throw off any future GPS or mobile tower tracking — just like Drishyam’s Vijay Salgaonkar. Yet the truth, though buried, began surfacing.

Police persistence pays off

The game changed when a friend of Vishal disclosed that Rohit was the last person seen with him. Interrogation tightened, and as pressure mounted, Rohit broke down and admitted to the murder, revealing not only the sequence of events but also the names of his accomplices. While Rohit is now behind bars, search operations are underway to locate his three other aides involved in the disposal of the body.

What Lies Ahead?

The firearm, reportedly thrown into the pond, is yet to be recovered. Divers and forensic teams are scanning the area as investigations continue. Police remain confident about making additional arrests and completing the loop of this grim plot.

Case recalls Twinkle Dagre murder mystery

The unearthing of the Vishal Chouhan murder case — involving deception, a buried body, and a friend-turned-killer — has revived memories of the chilling 2019 Twinkle Dagre case, where a 22-year-old Congress leader mysteriously disappeared and was later confirmed murdered. Much like Vishal’s case, Twinkle's murder was a deeply orchestrated crime masked by misleading clues. Police revealed her lover, Jagdish Karotiya, a former corporator, along with his sons, strangled her at an isolated location, planting a false trail of evidence to implicate her own parents and fiancé. The breakthrough then had come from a brain-mapping test, revealing the dark truth behind a murder that stunned the city.
