VIDEO l Pune Traffic: ‘Total Chaos In Keshav Nagar' As 35,000+ Residents Slam New Traffic Plan, Demand Immediate Action
Residents of the Keshav Nagar Welfare Association, which currently consists of 41 societies and 8,962 families/35,848 people, wrote a letter to the Pune Commissioner of Police to bring attention to the issue of traffic conditions in Keshav Nagar.
In the letter, the residents addressed the issues of traffic congestion in Keshav Nagar due to the recent traffic changes implemented by the Pune Traffic Department as per the circular dated May 3, 2025.
As per the new experimental traffic plan, several roads around Keshav Nagar, particularly near Renuka Mata Mandir Chowk, have been either made one-way or completely closed for vehicular movement.
The residents claim that they understand the intent behind these changes is to reduce congestion, but the current implementation is causing significant inconvenience to local residents.
The letter highlighted the demands of the residents, including the fact that there are no adequate alternative routes provided, and the existing ones are not capable of handling the increased load. Keshav Nagar is already heavily congested with narrow internal roads that are not designed for diverted traffic volumes. These changes are exacerbating the situation rather than resolving it. These changes are impacting daily life, including access to schools, emergency services, and local businesses.
The letter also highlighted that the unorganised auto stand near Mundwa Signal creates problems for residents of Keshav Nagar in daily life. The residents urged that traffic planning in this area must first involve road widening, the creation of proper alternate routes, and prior consultation with local residents.
Sudhir Shrivastava, Director of the Keshav Nagar Welfare Association, said, "Yesterday, we met with DCP Amol Zende and Inspector Sunil Dhavale and discussed the traffic problem of Keshav Nagar. They acknowledged our issue and are ready to take back decisions on the one-way, and also accepted our demand of deploying traffic police at Y Junction and Lonkar Chowk. We hope they stick by their words and solve the issue at the earliest."
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende said, "We will change the current traffic changes after holding a combined meeting with the PMC. In collaboration, we will work on identifying the waterlogging spots and other key factors disrupting the traffic situation, and after the corrective measures, if the situation remains the same, then we would seek out a different plan for the traffic menace."
