AAP student wing launches helpline to mobilise youth
Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing, the Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), has launched a mobile number to invite students to join its ranks.
The mobile phone number, 85888-33485, was launched on Friday, allowing students across India to become members through a simple missed call. At a press conference, ASAP members appealed to the nation’s youth to reject politics driven by caste and religion and instead become agents of “real change”.
Eeshna Gupta, an ASAP member, said the initiative was built on two earlier milestones — the launch of the student wing by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, and student wing’s announcement to contest the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections.
“Today, we are launching a membership number to reach out to 8 crore students across India,” she said.
Highlighting the need for systemic reform in student politics, ASAP member Ayan Rai said only 5 per cent of India’s 50,000 colleges conducted student union elections.
ASAP member Kamal Tiwari said the helpline would simplify the joining process. “Students just need to give a missed call. They will get a confirmation message, and our team
will contact them directly. We are also inviting students to follow and connect with us on social media through the handle @ASAP4Students,” he said.
