This country, a friend of India, to be hit by mega tsunami with 1000 feet high waves, massive earthquake of…, areas to be…, not Japan

New Delhi: Washington: Scientists have issued a warning of a major natural disaster that is scaring the entire world, especially the United States. This warning is for a terrifying tsunami (mega tsunami) that could devastate large parts of America. The magnitude of this tsunami can be gauged from the fact that its waves could rise up to 1,000 feet. This tsunami will be caused by a powerful earthquake occurring in the Cascadia Subduction Zone. In other words, an earthquake will occur first, followed by the tsunami.

Virginia Tech research

A study by researchers at Virginia Tech has predicted this earthquake and tsunami. The study states that due to the earthquake, some portions of the coastline could sink by up to 6.5 feet, making the tsunami even more destructive. This threat looms over parts of Alaska, Hawaii, and the western coast of the United States. Scientists say that these earthquakes will strike suddenly, leaving people with no time to escape.

When will it happen?

Research has indicated that there is a 15% chance of an 8.0 magnitude earthquake occurring in this region within the next 50 years. This means that while the likelihood is not very high, the risks cannot be dismissed either. Such a powerful earthquake of magnitude 8 could submerge coastal areas by up to 6.5 feet. It could devastate cities like Seattle, Portland, and Oregon. If an earthquake occurs in the Cascadia Subduction Zone, parts of Alaska, Hawaii, and the western coast of the United States are at risk.

The lead author of the study and assistant professor in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech, Tina Durra, stated that the extent of coastal flood plains after a Cascadia subduction zone earthquake has never been measured before. The study found that the most damage is likely to occur in southern Washington, Oregon, and northern California.

What is a mega-tsunami?

A mega-tsunami is different from a regular tsunami. Regular tsunamis have waves that are a few feet high, while mega-tsunamis can have waves hundreds of feet high. These tsunamis are caused by events such as powerful earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, or asteroid impacts. Unlike regular tsunamis, mega-tsunamis can go several miles inland, leaving very little time for evacuation for people. Such events are rare, but if they occur in densely populated areas, they can cause massive destruction. Mega-tsunamis are caused by major underwater events such as powerful earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions.
