A Tragedy In Transit

A three-year-old girl, Hrithiksha, was being rushed to the hospital by her parents for treatment of a dog bite when their motorbike was stopped by traffic officers enforcing fines. In the ensuing confusion, the vehicle lost balance, and the child fell, suffering a severe head injury. She was then run over by a tempo vehicle before being rushed to Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), where doctors declared her brought dead.

The incident has triggered massive public outrage. Grieving and enraged residents, supported by local organisations, placed the girl's body outside MIMS Hospital and blocked Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, demanding action against the responsible officers. Protesters raised slogans condemning the traffic police and questioned the lack of discretion shown during a medical emergency.
