50-Year-Old Farmer Mauled to Death by Tiger in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat District

Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh): In a tragic incident, a 50-year-old farmer was mauled to death by a Tiger early on Saturday morning in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district.

According to the forest officials, the incident occurred around 5 am in Balaghat’s Kundwa village.

The victim was working on his farm under the jurisdiction of Tirodi police station, when a tiger suddenly appeared and attacked him. 

Alarmed by the man's screams, nearby villagers rushed to the spot. They also attempted to drive the tiger away by pelting stones. The animal eventually fled into the forest corridor connecting the Kanha and Pench Tiger Reserves.

However, the farmer could not be saved unfortunately.

The tiger is reported to be roaming in the area for over a month.

Locals stage protest

In the aftermath of the incident, the angered local residents staged a protest. They alleged that forest officials had ignored repeated complaints about the tiger’s presence in the area for more than two months. Police intervened and managed to calm the situation.

Pane’s body was sent to Katangi Hospital for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, a team from the Pench Tiger Reserve has begun placing baited cages in the area in an effort to trap the tiger.
