With the fierce confrontation going on between the India and Pakistan, the locals of Baramulla had seen a swarm of drones in the night flashing orange and green lights flying towards an Army belt in Janbazpora, which is three kilometres away from Baramulla town. The incident happened on May 9.
“There were hundreds of them,” Mudasir Azad, who lives in Baramulla which is around 30 kilometres from the borders, says, “and they were easily seen in the dark sky rallying towards one direction.”
After a few blasts in the air, Azad had gone upstairs to see and make out what was really happening. “It started after 9 PM on 9th May,” he says, “and continued till 12.30 AM on the beginning of the 10th May.”
Azad says that he had for the first time witnessed such a scene in his 38 years of life. “I have never seen such visuals before,” Azad explains, “as they were approaching an army belt, they were taken down.”
Azad further adds that while they were exploding it seemed as if there was a show of firecrackers in the dark sky, splashing fire at multiple points. “They were being shot at the same time or they were being shot one after the other for almost two hours.”
The locals echo Azad’s experience and say that this is for the first time such a scene has occurred.
In another location near Srinagar Airport, around 9.30 PM, nearly 15 back to back blasts were recorded by the residents which they say sounded like the collision of two loaded metals in the air.
Another area near the military side of Srinagar Airport, Yichgam in Budgam had also seen people observing multiple blasts. Rashid Ahmad a mason who lives in the area said that he along with 200 families had vacated the location and moved into a far off place Panzgam, which is some 30 kilometres from Awantipora. “Our hearts have been quivering since the onset of military action, Rashid continues, “We are staying comfortably here now.”
On May 10, there were two more blasts in the morning around 4 AM and 6.28 AM shaking some areas in Srinagar. According to a resident, Naseer Ahmad in Srinagar, “There were two more blasts at 11.45 AM followed by another.”
